Documentary Pet-X

Pet-X is a pioneering 3D print pavilion, based on a fully self-supporting 3D print structure made of recycled PET material, built in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The initiative is by IMd Raadgevende Ingenieurs, the design by Ector Hoogstad Architecten and the research was done in cooperation with TU Delft. The printing work was carried out by the Spanish company Nagami, known for projects by Zaha Hadid, among others.

The research/development and construction process took years and we have captured this process in a video series. Over the past few months, we have captured the inspiring journey through the development process of the innovative 3D printed pavilion, which is a symbiosis of sustainability, design and architecture, in five short episodes. In total, these episodes were viewed no less than 7,500 times via the various social channels.

Now that the series is complete, we have made a dedicated final documentary. From initial design to final evaluation, follow the team from IMd Raadgevende Ingenieurs, Ector Hoogstad Architecten, TU Delft and Nagami as they explore the boundaries of design, sustainability and technology. With inspiring insights and challenging discoveries, "Pet-X: An experiment in innovation" offers a fascinating look at the potential of advanced technologies to transform the construction industry and discover how this experiment opens the way to a new generation of sustainable architectural solutions.

And the journey has not ended yet. Now that the pavilion has been realised, tests and measurements are continuously being carried out to investigate how the material holds up in the long term. It is precisely this knowledge that will be of value for the potential opportunities and applications of this material on a larger scale.
